AI Governance / North America
Build responsible AI governance around accountability and risk.
Section 1 — About Texas TRAIGA
The Texas Responsible Artificial Intelligence Governance Act (TRAIGA), established through HB 149, took effect on January 1, 2026. It creates a statewide framework governing the development and deployment of AI systems in Texas.
The law introduces requirements and restrictions around areas such as AI transparency, unlawful discrimination, biometric data, constitutional rights and responsible AI use. It also creates oversight mechanisms including the Texas Artificial Intelligence Council and a regulatory sandbox for qualifying AI systems.
For organizations using AI in Texas, TRAIGA makes it increasingly important to know which AI systems are in use, who owns them, what risks they introduce and how governance decisions are documented.
