Section 1 — About Colorado’s AI Law
Colorado’s updated Automated Decision-Making Technology law, enacted through SB26-189, takes effect on January 1, 2027 and replaces the earlier SB24-205 framework.
It regulates automated decision-making technology used to materially influence consequential decisions in areas such as employment, education, housing, financial services, insurance, healthcare and essential government services. The law introduces requirements around technical documentation, consumer notice, record retention, correction of inaccurate data and meaningful human review following certain adverse outcomes.
